District 11 Board of Education “Meet and Greet”

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Wednesday, September 1st, the Board of Education is having a “Meet and Greet” in the District Board Room. It will last about an hour, 6 pm to 7pm, with refreshments.  This is a real opportunity to meet your Board members in a totally informal, social environment.  As Director Tanner says, “We don’t bite”!

STAR Academy’s Community is encouraged to attend, all or even part of the time, to meet and share ideas and views on your choice of subjects.  This meet and greet is the kick-off to several Community Meetings being held at various district school locations starting on 5 October (More on the scheduling and locations will be published in the near future).

Look forward to seeing you all!!

STAR Academy will be coming to John Adams Compus for the 2010-2011 school year!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Dear STAR parents,

We’re excited to announce that STAR Academy will be expanding our campus to include a second building in order to alleviate over-crowding and serve our growing number of students.

Effective with the next school year, STAR students in grades 4-8 will be served at the former Adams Elementary school at 2101 Manitoba St. Grades Kindergarten-3 students will continue their instruction at our current site at 2520 Airport Rd.

The D-11 Board of Education voted Wednesday night to allow STAR to expand into the former Adams facility and occupy half of the building. The half of the Adams building which STAR will occupy includes a large site, playground, kitchen, offices, multi-purpose/gym room and 9 classrooms, which will accommodate 225 students. The other half of the facility is expected to be leased in 2011-12 to the Junior Achievement education program.

This change will not only help us deal with over-crowding but it will also help us establish a true middle school program  (grades 6-8) at the Adams site. Because we will not have rental expenses for the Adams facility this will also help alleviate budget pressures, assuming that we are able to add approximately 150 students to our current total enrollment.

Other announcements regarding staffing and other items regarding the STAR facility will be forthcoming.

This is an exciting time for STAR academy and the surrounding community- YOU HAVE A CHOICE where you send your child to school, and we appreciate you choosing STAR Academy!

Please share this information with all your friends, family, and community members.
