Dear Friend’s and Family!

In the time preceding the winter holiday break, our students have been learning the Paragon Holiday Guide, a curriculum supplement focusing on the wisdom traditions, specifically those of the world’s primary religions as rich and diverse as Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Kwanzaa, which is not a religion, but a winter festival that honors the past and reaffirms the future. In the guide are general lessons that provides a look at the winter celebrations. Beyond the factual accounts of other cultures and diversities throughout our world, another very important part of your child’s education is having an awareness and understanding of our core belief that we are all a part of a world community. This is the foundation of the Mosaica program, and what we strive as teachers to inspire at STAR Academy. Through this culture awareness, we hope to pass on the valuable lessons of tolerance and acceptance, for this is what frees our world, hopefully, of violence, judgment, and global “dis-harmony.”During this joyful holiday season, we invite you to a very special Holiday Festival on our last day of school before our winter break on December 18th at 2:00 pm. Everyone will gather in the gym, whereupon all grades will present their celebrations from around the world. We encourage parent and community involvement at this splendid time of joy, unity and coming together in comm-unity. We wish you a joyful holiday jaunt around the world! Please join us in the celebration.

Happy holidays!

Effective October 1, the CSSD11 FNS "NO-Charge Policy" will be enforced

Effective October 1, the CSSD11 FNS “NO-Charge Policy” will be enforced again. We eased up on this policy for the first six weeks of school to allow everyone a chance to ease into the new school year. Now, I must tighten the reigns again and enforce the district’s policy on this. The policy below costs the department approximately $8,000 per year, while uncollected charges are estimated at over $25,000 based upon historical figures.

The policy is located on the web at: http://www.d11.org/fns/no_meal_charger.htm

There have been some questions about how the Paragon Celebrations will be organized this year. Based upon feedback from staff and parents concerning levels of participation at Paragon Nights from last year, we are modifying what we are doing this year. Whether Paragon Celebrations are held during the day or in the evening, they will, no doubt, not meet everyone’s schedule. So we will over the course of the year host both day and evening celebrations.

Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation as we strive to find “the perfect balance” that will work for everyone during this important part of our student’s educational and artistic development. The “bigger picture” for having Paragon Celebration Day is the vital opportunity for all students to be able to participate within their classroom performances and not miss out. Having worked so hard on their classroom presentation, it is difficult to see their disappointment next day, knowing they missed out because their parent’s were not available to attend Paragon Night. Having it during the day this time at least insures that all students are available to perform. Again, thank you for your understanding. This is a process that we are working through!
